Ever think about how much you’d love to workout today to relieve all your stress only to have the door of opportunity slammed in your face by the dreaded hours of work as well as the mounds of school work that follow, or sometimes just class in general. This is where my blog comes into to (hopefully) help in any aspect it can. My topic of choice is what I like to call Workouthacks or hackableworkouts. While this can seem broad, my focus is more on how to bring exercise into your everyday life in simple (and fun/interesting) ways. Finding ways to incorporate exercises into these activities may see hard, but it’s much simpler than you would imagine. They may not burn more calories as you spending an hour at the gym running on the treadmill, but it allows you to be involved in some sort of physical activity throughout your day. I know personally, I am super interested in this because I miss being physically active everyday in high school, but with so many things on my plate, it makes it hard to always find the time. I strive everyday to incorporate some sort of activity into any random part of my day. I am hoping this blog will not only bring better ideas to me, but allow others to read and decide for themselves if they life any of my ideas for making activity an everyday part of life.
Because of this, my main focus of audience will be the students around universities who strive to balance everything on our plate while trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I don’t think this will lean towards one gender more. I think boys prefer to make time to go to the gym and life their weights or run but I also think there are many that could benefit from some of the stuff I will have to offer. Many of the blogs I have researched talk more about how to incorporate your children into your workout, which in our case, work, school, homework, clubs, these are all our “children”. There isn’t a big focus on incorporating workouts say into your job. The more I look, the more I see how to bring the children in and how to allow them to be involved. I think this will bring a new perspective and is more convenient than others. Normal workout blogs allot for people to set aside sometimes hours upon hours to workout and realistically, that isn’t happening. I won’t say they are all like this. Some are offering quick 10-30 minute workouts but sometimes setting aside that much alone time without being at work or having a paper to write or for goodness sake being at class, it is hard. Really hard. I want my blog to be different. I want my blog to allow people to get their homework done while simultaneously burning some calories. Or allow them to be at work (and doing a good job of course) while still being active and not just sitting around. Take advantage of the materials and space right around you that before you never would’ve seen this way. As I briefly touched upon earlier, many of the blogs that have to do with “hacking” your workout talk about including the kids. For many people looking to do this, this is their biggest issue. Having kids can make it hard to get even a half hour to yourself to do some physical activity. For this reason, a majority of my researched blogs were moms talking about ways to do this. Most seem to not just focus on exercise.Comeback Momma is one of these blogs! Comeback Momma is one of my favorite ones around. It focuses on not only healthy workouts and exercise, but an overall lifestyle. There is also a section for Healthy family, which leads to a bunch of entertainment and fun activities for the family. One of my favorites was “5 Ways to Connect as a Family-December.” This is a blog she does every month with things a family can all do together which coincide with the month. While it seems as if there is so much it could potentially be overwhelming, the owner/author does a fantastic job of tying everything together. Comeback Momma is typically for women, mostly aged 25-55. Most of these women reading are looking to improve their lifestyle someway. Readers are mostly busy moms, wifes or just women looking for that change in life. This woman takes the struggle of her life, with weight loss after her baby to post-partum depression, which led to depression and anxiety, which caused weight gain, and uses it to make a relatable blog for other moms and women to read. She has a high reader base and also does promoting and reviews even for brands such as Nike and Target. I really love her connection to other forms of social media as well. As the internet continues to grow, there are so many other ways to connect to people and Jenna does this by sharing her Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. I also love the overall design of her site. It is a little extensive for my liking, but I think it works perfectly for her overall idea. She has an About Me page where she shares her story which I loved because I thought it allowed the readers to connect to her. This is the main blog that gave me the idea that I think I want my blog to be more personal. I want to be able to tell my struggle or success stories. I want people to feel like they can relate to me just like I felt like I could relate to Jenna Finally, after looking into various sites, topics and ideas, I have decided to focus on ways to “hack” workouts. My page will be very personal, with a variety of personal connections to my own life and how I use different tips to incorporate exercise into my everyday activities. I would like to start my blog off by giving a few starting workout tips as well as personal ones. Another topic I will use for a blog will be geared towards working out with children. There are a lot of blogs out there for finding ways to workout when having children, but not too many INCLUDED children which is a big part of my life as well as many others, so I think this would be an interesting and useful idea for a blog. As for the overall feel of my blog, I want it to be very warming and personal. I hate when looking into workout blogs and finding people who act as if they are better than the people trying to find things. For this reason, I will make my blog have a very comforting, personal voice. I want readers to enjoy reading my material and feel comfortable asking me questions, giving suggestions or comments.

Berry, Hawisher and Selfe organized a global experiment having to do with different technological communications, of this generation but also with lots of facts on the past as well as in different parts of the world. I truly found these four readings intriguing, There were many quotes that stuck out to me but my top two being: In addition, mobile telephones began to be used for far more than voice communications, and by 2001 text messaging (short message service, or SMS) had become increasingly popular, more than doubling from 2000 to 2001 (see, ITU, 2002, p. 9)." In these narratives, the students continually named and referred to family members, friends, and peers who spoke a range of different languages and were from various world locations. The students discussed their own ideas and opinions in relation to these people. Although the young people didn't always agree with the opinions of the individuals they discussed, the narratives revealed a shared emphasis on tolerance, negotiation, and the acceptance of different practices, outlooks, and perspectives..." When looking at the two quotes, one can obviously tell they differ in content but something about each one of these quotes stuck out to me. Touching slightly on the first quote ( because I found this one to be less significant in meaning to the other), I think it really took be back because people are always saying how our generations is the first ones to really abuse texting and our phones, but look at this statistic. They say texting began its popularity in 2001, while yes we were alive and this is still from the 2000's, most of us were only 4 or 5 around that age. I am pretty sure we didn't texting popular as toddlers. This first one ties a lot into my artifact which happens to be my first phone. ![]() Everyones first phone is such a big deal, you finally get to enter into the world of communicating with your friends in an instant way using words. But with this as the quote suggested, comes growth. It talked about texting becoming more popular than voice calls. Now it takes it even further, there is Video Chatting, social media, and many others. Just as these techniques grow the phones grow with them. I went from the EnV, to the EnV 3 (Shown to the side), to the Voyager, to then EnV Touch, to the Samsung Stratosphere to when I finally switched to an Iphone 5s, which then became an Iphone 6 and now I have an Iphone 7. As I continued to get new phones, there continued to be a growing aspect surrounding each device. I rememeber being so excited each time I got a new phone because of this. I remember with the EnV Touch, there was a touch screen, with the Stratosphere, I could video chat people and play different games on it, while also there was now internet availability. Then once I moved to the Iphones, I could finally IMessage and be included in Groupchats (which in themselves have evolved over the years). But this all could play a part into the second quote because I think our generations especially takes so much shit for being so involved in our phones and people think we are such a disrespectful generation. But look at the other side of it, we accept change, we support (mostly) other groups of people, we may not agree with other people, WE respect their opinion and realize it is okay for everyone to not have the same standard thinking. It is great for people to have minds of their own, to believe in different things and personally, I think our generation does a good job of accepting and understanding this most of the time. I do believe out generation is more likely to fight or stand for what they believe in so I do see that causing more disagreements, certainly with the usage of social media. I couldn't tell you the amount of times I have gone on Twitter, Facebook, etc, to see people fighting over their beliefs, but this plays back to the quote where we may not always believe someone else's opinion but we talk about it , we talk about discussion of differences and acceptance. To start with, this chapter touches on "the theory of literacy as social practice in the form of a set of six propositions about the nature of literacy". Barton and Hamilton talk about how different types of literacy can be used in different ways within various social situations. They have a "set of six propositions about the nature of literacy", which are bulleted below.
These points all show different ways that literature can be used in and how each has a different purpose. I love to read but when I read novels I usually do for pleasure (just personally!! I know some people hate reading.). This varies from when say I read from a website to help create a craft/project I want to use for a lesson plan, which this can then lead me into meaningful conversation with my peers about the task. But then again, there are also say Bibles, which people can read for pleasure, use to connect in social setting or to simply use within their practice on Sunday mornings. Literature is everywhere and can not only be presented in various ways but used in various settings. A social group I am a part of here at Rowan University is Kappa Delta Pi. This is the Honors Society for Education. A large part of the time, our group uses a mix of digital and print. As a group, we constantly communicate through Facebook, where we post questions, information about events or meetings. It is an easy way to communicate and stay updated. But we also use a variety of print. We hold two large events each year and in the fall we had our PJ Party, where a whole party is based upon a book. We take the book and break it into different rooms, where there again is a mix of digital and print within each room. We also have flyers that are created to spread the word about different events. This club I think not only shows the different ways that literacy can be used but it contributes to also the social aspect that Barton and Hamilton touch on. |
