When I started this blog, I forgot to talk about one of the BIGGEST and most important parts of "hacking" a workout. Can you make any guesses as to what it might be? If you said, ENJOYMENT, you're correct. In order to be any sort of successful in accomplishing your goals, you NEED TO LOVE WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
No one is forcing you to workout, but for those who aren't quite motivated by themselves, the key is to make it fun. You need to be enjoying what you are doing if you want to see a change in yourself, because if you are enjoying it, you are more likely to stick with it. For me, it wasn't and still isn't easy. There is days where I don't even wanna think about going to the gym, so those days I try something different. I do a new class or I find a fun video I can do in the comfort of my own home. It took a long time for me to find an activity I loved doing, 3 short years later it was taken, only to leave me needing to find another activity I loved just as much, and I can honestly day I have never filled that void, so I try to with various activities. For those of you who have found you activity, KEEP GOING AND GETTING BETTER/STRONG/HEALTHIER!! and for those of you who are like me and still haven't found out, keep trying and trying until you hit the jackpot. Here are also two great quizzes by Seventeen and Playbuzz to help you find out which workout suits you best!
This week on our blog.....it's all about the KIDS. Now many people who struggle to find the time to fit a workout in are sometimes busy moms, for others like myself, my life revolves around kids. I go to school to teach kids, I work in a school, I work at a daycare, and I babysit every weekend, so very little time within my week is kid-free, so to make workouts easier, I've got a few tricks to get the kids involved.
To get a little more personal orientated, I work at a before and after care at my local schools district. For me, its much easier to include workouts because my kids are 3rd-5th grade. They LOVE anything that they think is a game, or anytime we allow them gym time/outside free play. But I will give you some of my favorite activities we do with the students:( Since I work at a school, I am not able to upload pictures or videos of the students without permission, so I will try get permission to show some of our cool activities!) 1.) BOOTCAMP!! We enjoy doing "bootcamp" with our kids and they find it so much fun. During half days, where we have students from 12-6, we will stop at various times throughout their homework time or movie to do SOMETHING!!! Sometimes a worker picks, sometimes a kids picks and sometimes we pick from our jar of activities. This gives the kids a short break to get their energy out. But once it is time to finally go to the gym, we have camp set up. There are various stations of different moves such s sit-ups, jumping jacks, and sometimes harder things like burpees or planks. The kids love working through the different stations, and depending on the intensity of their work, they earn stickers towards their final completion of boot camp official badge!
For this blog I am linking below a number of sites I truly enjoy about moms connecting workouts with their kids. The thing I find most important is MAKE IT FUN and MAKE IT EXCITING. MAKE IT A GAME! Kids will think they are just spending time with their parents, playing and doing fun activities, little do they know you are working your butt off!! Also check out one of my favorite not only kid friendly but overall workout pages, Daily Burn,. The link it is to a mom orientated one, but feel free to explore this amazing site!
For All the Busy Parents Out There! If you are anything like I am, you enjoy working out yet can NEVER find the time for it! We have all been there... long days at school and/or work and on top of that.... additional work, homework, prepping, or even taking care of kids. No matter what it is, there's always something. It seems to NEVER end. For me, it is school all day, work right after until 6, then coming home to homework and planning lessons. Even typing this is making me exhausted, so trying to drag my butt to the gym after a long day like this. NOPE. Sounds horrible, but it does happen often... but when it does, its miserable, so I started trying to find ways to bring my workout into my day, forcing myself to stay active. SO what typically happens is I finish my homework and reward myself by climbing into my cloud of a bed and watching....you guessed it..Netflix! So in order to reward myself with Netlifx, I needed to feel good that I got enough physical activity in throughout my day incorporating various workouts into my day. For this blog, I am hoping to research and find even more fun, different and fairly easy workouts to incorporate throughout your day. For this first post, I am going to start you off with a few of the basics with a couple I made up myself as well!
Check back and continue with me on my journey to find better and more fun ways to incorporate different workouts into various times throughout my busy schedule!
